Missing Dirk Nowitzki because of a one-game suspension earned by doing justice on Matt Harpring's face, the Mavericks needed a big performance and an imperfect Clippers effort to take a Sunday game in Los Angeles. Well, the Mavericks got both: the Clippers shot less than 40 percent and Josh Howard went nuts on offense, racking up 29 points (which included five threes), nine rebounds, seven assists and two blocks.
It's a vintage Howard performance, and something we haven't seen in a while from the guy. I prefer to think this line has nothing to do with Dirk's absence, though, and that Howard can repeat this to give us another fearsome Western team heading into the stretch run. We'll see.
Reigning Supreme: Another battle between the best of the Class of '03, another LeBron James victory. LBJ put up 33 points on 19 FGAs, nine assists and six rebounds as the Cavs beat the Heat 93-86. Dwyane Wade was slightly less stellar, with 29 points, eight assists, four rebounds and two steals.
Stings the Nostrils: Ben Wallace lines crack me up. To wit: 28 minutes of work, a monstrous 14 rebounds, three blocks and ... two points. God put Ben Wallace on this Earth to rebound and defend and do literally nothing else. He had six offensive rebounds, and only got two points for himself! That's either a sign of remarkable selflessness or remarkable inability to do anything involving a ball and a net, except for keeping the ball away from the net.
