El Fenix to Open WinStar Location

First location outside of Texas

Dallas-based El Fenix is making a gamble on its first expansion outside of the Lone Star State.

The classic Tex-Mex staple will open a new, 8,500 sq. ft. restaurant as part of the WinStar World Casino complex just across the Red River in Oklahoma.

“We visited several Tex-Mex restaurants throughout the selection process for WinStar World Casino,” Sherri Waters, chief of staff for the Chickasaw Nation said in a press release. “El Fenix is a beloved Dallas-based tradition and we can clearly see why!  The restaurant stood out in food quality, price, service and overall experience.  It's the perfect fit for our guests, as most of them commute from the Dallas-area."

El Fenix executives agreed.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for us,” said Mike Karns, president and CEO of El Fenix. “Because The WinStar is so popular with Dallasites, a lot of their guests will already be El Fenix fans. But this will also allow us to reach an entirely new group of customers, and we look forward to becoming a valuable member of the WinStar and greater Oklahoma community.”

Scheduled for a mid-June opening, the restaurant will be open daily for gamblers and Tex-Mex fans to enjoy enchiladas.
