A former head of internal medicine at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, who is facing a prison sentence for possession of child pornography, has surrendered his physician's license this month.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports Dr. James Shin, of Houston, is among 57 licensed doctors disciplined since the Dec. 11-12 meeting of the Texas Medical Board.
Shin, formerly of Southlake, must report to prison by Jan. 6 to serve a 3 1/2 sentence after pleading guilty in July. He also must pay a $25,000 fine.
Shin, also known as Young Jin Shin and James Young-Jin Shin, must register as a sex offender. He will face deportation proceedings to South Korea upon his release.
Prosecutors say Shin in September 2007 used the Internet to download and possess images and videos of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Shin resigned from the hospital in May.
