‘Young Sheldon' Is a ‘Big Bang’ of East Texas References

Television is no stranger to spinoffs. Cheers begat Frasier. Breaking Bad begat Better Call Saul. Given the ratings bonanza that is the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory, it was only a matter of time before a spinoff said hello. But this one is a bit different and has a whole lot to do with Texas. Young Sheldon is set in a fictional East Texas town in 1989 -- that's right, it's a prequel, à la Better Call Saul -- and focuses on a 9-year-old intellectual wunderkind named Sheldon Cooper. He skipped four grades to get to high school. Headliner Jim Parsons, the Houston native who plays the adult Sheldon on Big Bang, narrates. The debut episode of Young Sheldon is Monday night, Sept. 25, on Dallas' CBS affiliate, KTVT-TV (Channel 11).  Continue reading...
