Woman Accused of Stealing Packages in Lakewood Will Face Felony Theft Charge

The woman suspected of stealing packages off porches around Lakewood in recent weeks will face a felony theft charge.Kelli Russell, 33, turned herself in to authorities Wednesday and will have to wear an electronic monitoring device as part of the conditions of her bond.Police originally arrested Russell in east Oak Cliff on Dec. 11 on several outstanding traffic violations. Officers obtained a search warrant for her home after questioning her and reported finding "a large amount" of stolen packages.Russell was released on bond as police calculated the value of the items. The Dallas County district attorney's office announced Wednesday that the items were worth about $5,000 and Russell would face a charge of theft between $2,500 and $30,000, a state jail felony.A grand jury will determine whether to indict Russell on the charge."When our safety and sense of security in our own homes is threatened, those responsible need to be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law," Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson said in a written statement.  Continue reading...
