A 44-year-old woman was killed Friday after a semi reportedly failed to slow down as it approached a backup on Interstate 20 in Weatherford, police said, sparking a multi-vehicle collision. Officers responded to a call of a major accident about 3:42 p.m. and found the semi and its trailer laying on their sides in the median and blocking both eastbound and westbound portions of the freeway.Witnesses told the officers that the eastbound semi had just passed under the bridge at the 408 mile marker when it encountered backed-up traffic and failed to control its speed. The semi struck an SUV, pushing it into a passenger car in front of it, which then spun and struck a pickup in front of the passenger car. The semi is also believed to have hit the pickup. As a result of the collisions, the semi slid toward the median and rolled over on its driver side after hitting the center median's cable system. In doing so, it spilled Gatorade bottles that were among its cargo onto the interstate.A 44-year-old woman aboard the passenger car that was struck was killed, while seven other people were taken to various area hospitals via ground ambulance in unknown conditions. Two persons were evaluated and treated at the scene. Continue reading...
