With Promised Repairs Yet to Be Completed, South Oak Cliff Won't Reopen at the Start of the Upcoming School Year

South Oak Cliff High School won’t reopen at the start of the upcoming school year.After Dallas ISD superintendent Michael Hinojosa hinted at the delay during this week’s board briefing, the district’s deputy superintendent for operations Scott Layne confirmed that the campus would not be ready for students when the 2019-20 school year starts on Aug. 19.“It wouldn’t have been completely done,” Layne said. “We probably could have moved students in by [August], but we didn’t think it was the right thing to do. They’re in a good situation right now at Village Fair, and we didn’t want to change that.”DISD began a $52 million renovation in Jan. 2018 -- moving approximately 1,100 students mid-year to nearby Village Fair, a renovated shopping center.  Continue reading...
