Why the Creators of Comic Strip ‘Baldo' Decided to Make a Major Character a Dreamer

The comic strip Baldo, with its cast of Latino characters, is delving into immigration politics in a big way.On Monday, the comic strip revealed that a major character is a Dreamer — the name commonly used for unauthorized immigrants brought to the U.S. as children and protected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA.Baldo has been syndicated for 17 years and runs in The Dallas Morning News and about 200 other newspapers.Hector Cantú, a former editor at The News, and illustrator Carlos Castellanos started the strip in 2000 as an effort to bring diversity to comics sections.  Continue reading...
