Who in the Senate Is Threatening to Shut Down the Government This Time? Hint: It's Not Ted Cruz

WASHINGTON -- You might have heard the “s-word” floating out of Washington again: shutdown. As in government shutdown.But this time, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz isn’t behind it.With the government set to run out of funds Friday at midnight, a group of Senate Democrats, led by West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, is threatening to delay the passage of a crucial short-term government spending bill over concerns it doesn't provide adequate health benefits for retired coal miners.The stopgap bill, or continuing resolution, cleared the House on Thursday and would fund the government through late April.But Manchin, a rare Democrat from a conservative state, is waging an 11th-hour battle to have the miners’ benefits extended for a year.   Continue reading...
