When Will Texas Get Serious About Addressing Dying Pregnant Women?

When Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced 20 emergency items that legislators needed to address in a special session this summer, most should well have waited for the next session. But one area he was right to sound the alarm on: the rate at which Texas women are dying from pregnancy-related causes. Texas' maternal mortality rate doubled from 18.6 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2010, to 35.8 deaths by 2014. More than 600 Texas women died during that period.  Continue reading...
