‘We're Meant to Be': Grand Prairie Killer Gets 70 Years for Murdering High School Sweetheart

Anthony Marcus and Florencia Padilla were high school sweethearts. They stayed together after Padilla graduated as valedictorian at Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy and started college. She wanted to be an artist. But in June 2015, Padilla got a job. She didn't rely on Marcus as much, and they broke up months later. "That's when the roller coaster started," prosecutor Jessica Trevizo said. Anthony Marcus, 24, pleaded guilty to murder for killing Padilla on April 27, 2016. He shot his 20-year-old ex-girlfriend twice in the head. A Dallas County jury sentenced him Friday to 70 years in prison and issued him a $10,000 fine.
