Watch: Hundreds at Rockwall Church Honor Slain Officer Rogelio Santander

Hundreds of mourners gathered in Rockwall this morning to pay their respects to Dallas police Officer Rogelio Santander, who was shot and killed last week while trying to arrest a man at a Home Depot.On Monday, the 27-year-old officer's loved ones participated in a private Mass and a public visitation. Today's funeral service will include a procession of law enforcement vehicles that will escort the slain officer's body from Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall to Restland Cemetery in Dallas.Dozens of blue ribbons on wooden sticks lined eastbound Interstate 30's service road near the church. Businesses nearby also paid tribute. A Home Depot just blocks away put up a tall board with the words "Back the Blue" and a ribbon bearing Santander's name and badge number.Inside the church, recruits in the Dallas police academy kept watch over the auditorium until it was time to let the public in.Those who gathered inside quietly watched a slideshow of milestones in Santander's life: baby photos with relatives, his senior photo from Skyline High, a graduation photo from Texas A&M-Commerce, photos from the Dallas police academy and photos from his three years as a Dallas police officer.One of the photos showed Santander grinning as usual in his squad car, holding up a handwritten sign that said, "Hey you, smile."  Continue reading...
