Trump's National Security Strategy Makes Sense, and That Has Little to Do With Trump

Shortly after the Trump administration's national security strategy hit the street two weeks ago, one of the president's most significant steps in foreign policy was condemned by virtually every country in the world.Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel drew the support of a number of powerhouses: Togo, Guatemala and Honduras. Also, Nauru and Palau โ€” tiny island nations in the Pacific Ocean.Britain, France, Germany, Japan, China, Russia and Saudi Arabia all voted along with most major countries of the United Nations to condemn the decision (128-9, with 35 abstentions) and demand its reversal.Bad timing? Perhaps. The Trump presidency did have narrow passage of a so-called tax reform to celebrate โ€” even though its main beneficiaries are the wealthiest 1 percent, not the lower and middle classes he promised to help.  Continue reading...
