‘Trading Something Ugly for Something Beautiful,' Houston Woman Gives Birth to Baby Girl After Fleeing Hurricane Harvey

PLANO — Nora Uribe assumed the cramps she felt in her stomach Monday afternoon were just the result of stress caused by fleeing her north Houston home ahead of Hurricane Harvey. The 31-year-old woman, her husband, their two children and her brother had traveled for approximately five hours on Friday from their home to stay with her uncle in Wylie. And Uribe — who was nine-months pregnant — sat in the cramped back seat of their car throughout the trip. But when she went to Medical City Plano for what she thought was a simple check-up, doctors had a surprise for her — she was about to give birth to her third child. "They told me I was three centimeters dilated, and they didn't let me leave," Uribe said in Spanish Wednesday. She said that with her previous deliveries, her labor had been induced so she had "no idea" the abdominal pains she was having were contractions "because I had never had them with my two other children."  Continue reading...
