Thousands of Cheerleaders May Have Been Exposed to Mumps at Dallas Competition

State health officials are warning of possible exposure to mumps at a cheerleading competition last month that brought athletes from 39 states and nine countries to Dallas. A person with mumps traveled from another state to Dallas for the National Cheerleaders Association All-Star National Championship, Texas Department of State Health Services spokesman Chris Van Deusen said. The department sent a letter to those who participated in the competition, which was held Feb. 23 through Feb. 25 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, to let them know that they or their children may have been exposed to the virus.
