Thousands Expected to Rally Against White Supremacy in Downtown Dallas on Saturday

Activists are planning a rally against white supremacy Saturday evening near the Confederate War Memorial in Dallas.The protest is planned from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Pioneer Park next to City Hall and will feature a number of speakers from various local activist groups, according to a Facebook page for the event.Counter-protesters are expected, but Mayor Mike Rawlings said police will be prepared to take action if any violence breaks out. "We will not have street brawls in our city," he said.Rally organizer Eric Ramsey told WFAA-TV (Channel 8) that he was expecting as many as 3,000 people at the event, which was planned as a response to the deadly white supremacists-planned protest in Virginia. "Our point of the rally is to unite people of all different colors, genders, sexual orientations in a show of unity, diversity and love," Ramsey said.The violent rally in Charlottesville, Va., was sparked after that city made plans to remove a statue of Confederate Gen.
