This White Wine From Texas Is Picking Up National Awards … and Lots of Fans

Texans aren't the only ones smitten with Duchman Family Winery's refreshing vermentino, a consistent medal winner at prestigious wine competitions. The current vintage - 2017 - took gold at the 2018 San Francisco International Wine Competition, and silver at the 2019 TexSom International Wine Awards.Named for the Italian grape variety from which it's made, vermentino's bright citrus flavors, herbal notes, and good acidity make it a nice alternative to sauvignon blanc. This one shows citrus and orange blossom aromas, and flavors of grapefruit, lime zest, green apple and light herbs. A limestone minerality reflects its Texas terroir. Lively acidity makes it an especially food-friendly wine. Try it with: shellfish, including raw oysters; ceviches or crudos; fried or baked white fish; pasta with pesto or creamy sauces; chicken pot pie; charcuterie; and fresh goat cheese.  Continue reading...
