‘This Is My Brave Child:' Sutherland Springs Celebrates Life of Pastor's Slain Daughter

LA VERNIA — It was standing room only in the little brick church Monday afternoon.Nearly two dozens wreaths filled the First Baptist Church of La Vernia. Photographs were projected on the walls: Annabelle Pomeroy painting Easter eggs. Annabelle swimming with her mom. Belle performing in a school play, dressed up as an angel. The mood was somber, serious, as families filed by her little purple casket. They flocked to Annabelle’s adoptive father Frank Pomeroy, the pastor of First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, and her mother Sherri. Her sisters and brothers clutched friends and family close.Then, suddenly, just after noon, the mood changed as pop music filled the small building. The kids laughed and the teenagers began singing along to FM Static’s “Flop Culture,” their little voices booming as they belted out the lyrics."There’s a million other people with a lot on their mind," they sang.
