These Ambush Attacks on Police Have to Stop

It's a horror that's becoming all too familiar.Two more ambush attacks on police officers in San Antonio and St. Louis on Sunday, and a shooting in Florida on Monday, have left an officer dead and two others injured.Two of the officers were sitting in their squad cars - one shot and killed right outside police headquarters.That these horrific attacks continue and are getting even more brazen prompt us renew our call for swift justice so these criminals will understand these heinous acts won't be tolerated.There's still a lot we don't know about the details or motives in these cases - the murder suspect is still at large. But we must be unified in condemning these crimes. We must stand with the vast number of law enforcement officers who do incredibly difficult jobs the right way.We understand what these cities are going through. And we share their pain.It was less than five months ago that a gunman ambushed and killed five Dallas officers working a downtown protest about the fatal police shootings of black men in Minnesota and Louisiana.Then 10 days later in Baton Rouge, a man killed three officers near a gas station and convenience store.Earlier this month, two Des Moines-area police officers in Iowa were fatally shot in separate ambush-style attacks while sitting in their patrol cars.This week, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said 20-year veteran Benjamin Marconi was targeted and fatally shot because he was wearing his uniform.  Continue reading...
