The Dallas Morning News Recommends Erik Wilson for Dallas City Council, District 8

Familiar foes square off again in the race for the District 8 seat on the Dallas City Council. Incumbent Tennell Atkins and Erik Wilson have traded places leading the district for the last 12 years.Wilson replaced Atkins in 2015 when Atkins left because of term limits, then Atkins returned for an encore two years ago.We recommend voters tell Atkins he’s had enough time on the council and return Wilson to City Hall. Even though he spent far less time on council, Wilson actually has a better record of getting things done in the sprawling far southern Dallas district.Wilson, a 46-year-old former Duncanville teacher, appears more in touch with the issues residents care about most — affordable housing, improved infrastructure, good quality of life — and more focused ideas on how to attack them.It was under Wilson’s watch on the council that the redevelopment of Red Bird Mall was kick-started. He also pushed the state highway department for long-needed exits around the mall and spearheaded the overdue water and sewer infrastructure for home construction near the University of North Texas at Dallas.  Continue reading...
