The Dallas Morning News Recommends Dawn Blair in the June Runoff for Dallas City Council, District 4

Residents of Dallas City Council District 4 need strong leadership at the council horseshoe, and newcomer Dawn Blair holds great promise to provide it. For this reason, we recommend Blair, a veteran city employee with a thoughtful voice, over incumbent Carolyn King Arnold.Uninspired leadership has long hurt this Oak Cliff district. Dwaine Caraway held this seat until a federal investigation into Dallas County Schools landed him in prison and opened up his place at the horseshoe to a gaggle of candidates in a special election last year to fill out the remaining months of his term.Arnold, who held this seat for two years before losing to Caraway in 2017, emerged victorious from that special election scrum, but she was forced into a June 8th runoff with Blair for a full term after failing to get a majority during the May 4th general election.Arnold, 65, had her chance, and in our opinion, was generally ineffective, reflexively confrontational and too often seemed uncertain or unprepared during council debates. Arnold now says she has learned the importance of listening and building coalitions, and she wants voters to return her because she has experience and would provide continuity.  Continue reading...
