The Dallas Morning News Recommends David Blewett for Dallas City Council, District 14

We had high hopes for Philip Kingston when he was elected to the Dallas City Council in 2013 to represent District 14, a diverse, sprawling district that includes Downtown Dallas, Uptown, historic East Dallas, Turtle Creek and Oak Lawn.In three terms, Kingston, 46, has instead steadily demonstrated divisive pettiness toward staff, fellow council members and constituents, undermining his effectiveness on the council. Enough is enough. Voters should not return him to the council horseshoe.Our nod in this race goes to real estate financier David Blewett, who we think would provide the collaborative leadership and respectful outreach to all constituents that Kingston has not. Like Kingston, Blewett, 53, says City Hall must be more responsive to the concerns of Dallas’ neighborhoods. Unlike Kingston, Blewett seems willing to pursue neighborhood concerns without cynicism. Blewett exhibits a more nuanced understanding of the way to attract business and to balance quality of life concerns of residents than Kingston, who prefers to personalize legitimate policy disagreements.  Continue reading...
