The Container Store to Exit Galleria North as Retailer and Shopping Center Respond to Changing Times

The Container Store is moving out of the Galleria North and developer Mike Ablon has plans to reshape the strip center which he says is dated. The Coppell-based organization specialty chain of 92 stores and the Dallas developer have separate plans that are responses to the evolving state of retailing.Galleria North, located on Alpha Road just east of the Dallas North Tollway, will transition from a "mall perimeter, big box strategy," which Ablon said, "was very 1990s," and repositioned "to one with more of a sense of space, more experience retail and smaller shops."The Container Store will move around the corner to the Alpha Parkway Plaza with its Custom Closets brand in big letters on the outside and a new updated store layout focused on a range of closet options it's developed the last couple of years. The relocated Container Store will open later this year in the former Toys R Us space, the retailer confirmed. This fall, Ablon said, he will have merchandise mix and branding plans ready to begin construction on Galleria North and make it blend into the luxury apartment complex under construction just behind the strip center's in its former parking lot.  Continue reading...
