Texas Officer Shoots Black Man Who Pointed Phone at Him as If It Were a Gun, Bryan Police Say

A Texas officer shot a black man who pointed a cell phone at him as if it were a gun Sunday night, Bryan Police Chief Eric Buske said.The 33-year-old man has improved from critical condition to stable condition in a hospital, Buske said Monday at a news conference. Officers initially responded to a disturbance call about 10:20 p.m. in the 5300 block of Mallard Drive, where a woman said a man whose protective order had recently expired was on her property, police told The Eagle.The man, who used to date the woman, approached and put his right hand in his back pocket as Officer Steven Laughlin walked closer, Buske said.
