Texas Man Who Beheaded His Wife With a Knife Gets 52 Years in Prison

A Texas man who admitted to decapitating his wife in what he called a "battle between good and evil" has been sentenced to 52 years in prison.Davie Dauzat, 24, pleaded guilty to murder Friday in a Waco court, according to the Waco Tribune-Herald. "While this killer earned a lifetime behind bars, the health of the children who witnessed this terrible act had to be considered," McLennan County District Attorney Abel Reyna said in a prepared statement to KCEN-TV. "The family and medical professionals were adamant that these children could not relive this unspeakable horror in a trial."Bellmead police arrested Dauzat in August 2016 after they found the remains of his wife, 21-year-old Natasha Dauzat, in separate places in the couple's mobile home. Police had come to the home for a welfare check earlier in the day but said there was nothing concerning at the time.Dauzat told police that he and his wife had smoked "kush," or marijuana, the morning of the slaying, the Tribune-Herald reported.Though Dauzat acknowledged that killing his wife was wrong, "he would also state that it was a battle between good and evil," according to search warrant obtained by the newspaper.Dauzat told police that he killed his wife with a knife while their 1-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter were home, according to the Tribune-Herald.
