Texas Man Charged in Boating Accident That Killed 8-year-old Boy

A Texas man accused of driving a boat while intoxicated has been charged in a deadly Sunday tubing accident in Louisiana, officials said. Eddie L. Dunwoody, 35, of Vidor was towing a tube with three boys on it about 5 p.m. on the Old Sabine River near Nibletts Bluff Park. He made a turn and the tube swung out, striking the bank and ejecting the boys, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said. Damian Haines, 8, also of Vidor, was airlifted to an area hospital, where he died. Another boy was taken to a Beaumont hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening. The third boy had minor injuries and did not require further treatment, officials said. Dunwoody, 35, tested over the legal limit for alcohol and was operating the bass boat in a no-wake zone, officials said. He faces charges of operating a vessel while intoxicated with child endangerment, vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injury, reckless operation of a watercraft, and violating a no-wake zone. Dunwoody is being held in the Calcasieu Parish jail.Vidor is a city in Orange County, about 11 miles northeast of Beaumont.   Continue reading...
