Tata Consultancy Expands Texas Presence With 200 Former Transamerica Workers

An India-based IT and consulting services company is expanding its workforce in Texas, picking up more than 200 former Transamerica Life Insurance Co. workers in Plano.Tata Consultancy Services said in an announcement that the workers join its team as part of a multiyear agreement to assist the insurer in expanding its digital capabilities. TCS will take over several floors of the Transamerica building, 2700 W. Plano Parkway.Transamerica informed the state last month that it was transferring more than 200 jobs to an unspecified third party service provider. It said the employees were offered jobs with the new company at "the same or greater base wage."Based in Mumbai, TCS is a global giant with 400,000 employees and $19 billion in annual revenue. In Texas, it has more than 3,500 employees and existing offices in Dallas and Houston.With the addition of the Plano office, TCS said it also will extend its education program that now operates in San Antonio, Dallas, Houston and Austin. That program is designed to attract youths from underserved parts of the community to diverse technology careers. Last year, TCS launched a program with Dallas Independent School District to provide free resources to educators to help them integrate computational thinking into core subjects. So far, more than 100 educators have been trained and 2,300 students involved.TCS is the now second Indian tech giant to add jobs in Plano. During a recent trade mission to India, Wipro Ltd. told Texas Gov. Greg Abbott that it will create 150 jobs at a new hub for cybersecurity and advanced technology applications that it's creating in Plano.As many as 450 more of the high-paying jobs will be added at the Plano facility over the next two years, said its chief executive, Abidali Z.
