WASHINGTON — The leaders of American Airlines and Southwest Airlines said Wednesday that they are optimistic about the industry's ability to withstand the aftermath of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, even though the storms packed a serious financial punch in the short-term."There is a blow, and we are going to absorb it," Southwest chief executive Gary Kelly said at Airlines for America's Commercial Aviation Industry Summit.
