Southwest Airlines to Drop Flights to Mexico City in March; Readies to Go Big on Hawaii

Southwest Airlines plans to cease flights to Benito Juárez Mexico City International Airport by the end of March in order to reallocate resources to "better opportunities," the company announced Thursday.The Dallas-based carrier's pullback from the largest city in Mexico began two years ago when it gave up a pair of coveted flight slots. It had won approval to operate four flights in and out of the Mexican capital of nearly 9 million people.Southwest is instead gearing up to launch its stalled Hawaii expansion, a move that CEO Gary Kelly acknowledged will take away from other international markets.
