‘Shark Tank' Could Be a New Model for Southern Dallas Investing

Not often do high-profile investors gather specifically to look at promising redevelopment projects in southern Dallas. So we hope that an event this week might be the start of something new.Three relatively inexperienced developers with innovative redevelopment ideas, participating in a Thursday event modeled after the Shark Tank television show, will make pitches specific to the southern half of the city. On hand to listen and evaluate will be a panel of real estate investors who have set aside as much as $2.5 million to invest in the ventures.Two of the proposals are in the Fair Park area and the third is at Dallas Executive Airport, located in the Red Bird neighborhood. The three are spots that Mayor Mike Rawlings' GrowSouth initiative and Impact Dallas Capital, an investment nonprofit, have targeted for much-needed new projects."These are real business deals," says Linda McMahon, president and chief executive officer of the Real Estate Council, which organized the event and helped the competitors refine their pitches.
