Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be in a Museum, Dallas Confederate Monument's Task Force Says

A statue of Robert E. Lee ought to be put in a museum, members of the Mayor's Task Force on Confederate Monuments said Tuesday.The task force members voted nearly unanimously to relocate the Lee statue, which is now in storage. That likely means the statue will be given over to an institution as a gift or a long-term loan. The Cultural Affairs Commission and City Council, which has the final say, will likely be left to sort out the details. But after a lengthy discussion, the 20-member task force, appointed by the City Council, all seemed to agree that the city shouldn't sell the statue -- fears over it falling into the wrong hands persisted -- and that it certainly shouldn't return it to its pedestal at Lee Park.  Continue reading...
