Robber Posing as a Cop Assaults Woman During Tyler Traffic Stop

Tyler police are searching for a would-be robber who made a traffic stop while posing as a police officer this week, officials said.A woman reported being pulled over by a dark sport utility vehicle early Tuesday, Tyler police spokesman Don Martin said. The victim had just left Walmart and was traveling south on South Broadway Avenue just after midnight when she saw the SUV with flashing red lights on dash behind her.She pulled over at FM2813 where the man approached her car and demanded money, she said. The woman showed the man that she had no money in her purse, and he slammed her head into the steering wheel before driving off in the SUV, she told police. The woman said she knew when the man approached her that he was not a police officer because he had no patches, badge or other identifiers, Martin said. However, the woman said the lights on his dash made his SUV seem like a police officer’s vehicle. She described the man as white, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and in his mid-30s with scruffy facial hair and dressed in all black.Anyone who has information about the attempted robbery can call police at 903-531-1090.  Continue reading...
