Ringleader Behind Home Invasion Robbery Involving Radio Host Russ Martin Gets 62 Years for Crime Spree

The ringleader behind a series of violent crimes that included the 2015 home invasion robbery of popular radio host Russ Martin was sentenced Friday to 62 years in federal prison.Jermaine Webster Harris, 27, of Lewisville was convicted by a jury last year on 17 federal charges in connection with several home invasion robberies, burglaries and carjackings. Charges included theft of firearms and possession of stolen firearms. Harris was sentenced Friday before District Judge Marcia A. Crone.Prosecutors say Harris and three others conducted surveillance on several homes in upscale neighborhoods in Plano and Frisco. They later returned to commit home invasion robberies. "This defendant terrorized many people," U.S. Attorney Joseph D. Brown said in a news release. "These are the kind of violent offenders that the Justice Department will continue to prioritize for prosecution."Their crimes between August 2014 and October 2016 often revolved around stealing guns. Court records detail more than 40 firearms stolen during their crime spree.According to Frisco police, three armed men wearing masks confronted Martin as he arrived at his Frisco home in Stonebriar Creek Estates in December 2015. They duct-taped him to a chair and held him at gunpoint while they confiscated valuables, including several firearms.
