Residential Tower and Resort Pool Are Planned With Cabana Hotel Redo

Developers redoing one of downtown Dallas' landmark hotels are setting their sights on a second historic project.Centurion American Development Group is finishing up its $230 million renovation of the historic Statler Hotel on Commerce Street.At the same time, the Farmers Branch-based real estate firm is buying the 55-year-old former Cabana Motor Hotel on Stemmons Freeway with plans to renovate the building.The 10-story hotel across the highway from Victory Park has been vacant for years.It housed a county detention center before it was closed and put up for sale as surplus property.Previous deals to turn the property into a data center or other new uses fell through.Centurion American founder Mehrdad Moayedi said he wants to preserve the mid-century modern building.  Continue reading...
