Report: Liquor-law Violations at TCU Among the Highest in the Country

Texas Christian University ranked third in the country among schools that report the most disciplinary action against students for alcohol violations, according to a new study by ProjectKnow. ProjectKnow — a website designed to provide resources for addicts and alcoholics as well as their family members — released the study Friday that compared campuses that allow alcohol on school grounds with those that have zero-tolerance policies for alcohol on campus, also known as "dry" campuses.TCU was the only Texas school that made the list of schools reporting the most arrests or disciplinary actions for liquor-law violations. However, alcohol is allowed in students' rooms and apartments with no more than six guests who are all of legal drinking age. "When we first ranked the universities with the highest liquor arrest rates, the results were evenly split between wet and dry campuses," according to the report. "After we added alcohol-related disciplinary actions to the equation, we saw a clear trend of wet campuses dominating the charts."The group defines a "dry" campus as having policies that prohibit alcohol on campus even if a student is over 21. A spokesperson for ProjectKnow said Tuesday they "specifically looked at large, nonprofit four-year schools with at least 10,000 enrolled students."The report used 2015 data— the most recent available — from the federal Office of Postsecondary Education.   Continue reading...
