Recent Oklahoma Police Academy Graduate Dies After Shootout

A 22-year-old Oklahoma police officer died Monday morning after he was shot late Sunday during a traffic stop, the Associated Press reported.Officer Justin Terney died after surgery for multiple gunshot wounds. Tecumseh Assistant Police Chief J.R. Kidney said Terney graduated last summer from the police academy.Police said the traffic stop happened at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday in Tecumseh, 35 miles southeast of Oklahoma City.Authorities said the suspect ran away from the officer and later opened fire, hitting Terney several times "in the lower extremities" after the officer used a stun gun. The officer returned fire, wounding the suspect.Kidney said Terney was in critical condition through Sunday night and died Monday morning after undergoing surgery.The suspect is in intensive care for his gunshot wounds, and police are working to identify him.
