Professor Matthew McConaughey: Oscar-winning Actor to Teach at University of Texas

AUSTIN -- Academy Award winning actor Matthew McConaughey landed a new role: University of Texas professor.But it's not for a movie. McConaughey, a 1993 alum with a film degree from UT, was appointed professor of practice at the Moody College of Communications starting in the fall semester which begins today.The university announced that the Dazed and Confused actor, who has strong ties to school, will join the Department of Radio-Television-Film. "He has a passion for teaching, and for all things cinematic, that is palpable, even infectious," said Noah Isenberg, chair of the Department of Radio-Television-Film.McConaughey has been a visiting instructor since 2015, co-teaching the Script to Screen film production class. "It's the class I wish I would have had when I was in film school. Working in the classroom with these students gives me a chance to prepare them," McConaughey said in schools press release. "Making movies, turning words on paper into film, is both a science and art - no matter the time or generation. The elements of truth and genuine joy for the process are timeless. That will always be our classroom focus."Last year, university officials declared McConaughey the "minister of culture" for the school's new planned basketball arena set to open in 2021.   Continue reading...
