Preston Center-area Zoning Dispute Comes to Dallas City Hall

Residents of one of Dallas wealthiest neighborhoods packed chartered buses Thursday to fight City Hall's ideas for zoning changes near Preston Center.The City Plan Commission on Thursday did not vote on the divisive zoning case, which is at the heart of the high-profile council campaign between incumbent Jennifer Staubach Gates and her challenger, former Mayor Laura Miller. But residents said they wanted to show up in force to the hearing to express their fears about the redevelopment of a 14-acre tract called Planned Development District 15, or PD-15, where a fire destroyed a condominium building two years ago.“Even on a rainy day, we’re showing that a lot of people have a lot of concerns,” said Sharon Stone, a resident in the area commonly known as “behind the pink wall,” for the serpentine pink brick wall that stretches along Northwest Highway east of Preston Road.  Continue reading...
