Poll: Abbott Bests Patrick, Cruz Beats Cornyn and Nobody Knows Who Beto O'Rourke Is

AUSTIN -- Gov. Greg Abbott is the most popular among Texas' top state officials, soundly beating Lt. Gov Dan Patrick and U.S. Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, according to a University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll released Friday.Forty-five percent of respondents to the poll said they approve of the job Abbott is doing, compared to 38 percent who disapprove. His disapproval rating has slightly increased from the last time the poll measured his popularity in February when 33 percent of people disapproved of him, but he continues to receive more favorable than unfavorable votes.The poll surveyed 1,200 self-declared register voters online between June 2 and June 11. The survey, conducted by the public opinion research firm YouGov, has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.83 percentage points.Political observers have debated who is running the show in Austin, with some arguing that Patrick, who has pushed controversial items like a bill that would dictate where transgender people in the state can go to the bathroom, is in charge rather than Abbott.  Continue reading...
