Police Shoot Man Who Led Them on Chase in Stolen Bait Car, Rammed Fair Park Gate

Dallas police shot a man who led them on a chase from the Deep Ellum area to Fair Park in a stolen bait truck, police say.The chase began around 2 a.m., after officers found a man allegedly driving a stolen bait truck in the 300 block of North Walton Street. The suspect led them on a chase and rammed the Fair Park gate near Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert B. Cullum boulevards.The man was wounded after officers shot at him, our partners at KXAS-TV (NBC5) report. He was taken to hospital in unknown condition.Police said all of their officers were OK.So far this year, roughly 3,090 car burglaries and crashes have been reported in Dallas. Around this time last year, that number was roughly 3450.The Dallas Police Department has said its bait cars are not intended to rack up arrests; they are designed to be deterrents for vehicle thefts. Police get alerts when a bait car is broken into and they can usually track the car if it is stolen.And it isn't unusual for police to catch someone in a bait vehicle.Last year, a suspect bailed from a bait truck just before it dropped 30 feet and crashed upside down on Interstate 30 in West Dallas.   Continue reading...
