Police Officer Shot Dead While Serving Warrant in Central Texas

A police officer was fatally shot Monday afternoon while serving a warrant in San Marcos, about 30 miles south of Austin.Several officers were serving the warrant in the El Camino Real subdivision, the city said in a statement.The wanted person shot the officer multiple times. The officer, who was wearing his protective vest, was rushed to a hospital and pronounced dead at 3:50 p.m.The officer's shooter was shot during a standoff and taken to an Austin hospital for treatment.Authorities have not released the names of the officer or the shooting suspect.Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton offered his condolences in a statement."Along with everyone learning of a San Marcos police officer's murder today, I am deeply troubled and saddened," Paxton said. "Officers around our state courageously serve and deserve our utmost honor and respect, especially during this time.
