Phil Huffines Taking Steps to Try to Join Brother Don in Texas Senate, But He'll Have Competition

Dallas businessman Phillip Huffines is easing closer to a run for the Texas Senate, but he'll have plenty of competition.Plano Republican Reps. Jeff Leach and Matt Shaheen say their candidacies for the soon-to-be open Senate District 8 seat in Collin County won't be affected by Huffines, who will bring high name recognition and potentially lots of his own money to a Senate bid.But Leach and Shaheen are familiar to Collin County voters and Republican activists in the area. Whether one or both of them tussle with Huffines for the seat, it would be hard-fought battle unusual to Collin County.
