Passenger in Critical Condition After Multivehicle Crash on I-35E in Northwest Dallas

A man was in critical condition and a driver faces a charge of intoxication assault after a multivehicle crash Friday morning in northwest Dallas.The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. at Interstate 35E near Royal Lane when a Camaro traveling at high speed slammed into the back of an 18-wheeler, police said.The Camaro was then hit by a Honda CRV, which sent it into the left shoulder of the freeway where it was hit by a third car, police said.The third car, a gray Chrysler 300, then fled the scene and was found abandoned in the 11600 block of Harry Hines Boulevard, a Dallas County Sheriff's Department spokesman said.Deputies performed CPR on the Camaro's injured passenger until Dallas Fire-Rescue arrived. The 42-year-old man was in critical condition at an area hospital.The Camaro's driver, identified as 23-year-old Oscar Manuel Arenas, also was hospitalized and will be booked into the Dallas County Jail once he's released, Dallas County Sheriff's spokesman Raul Reyna said.No other injuries were reported.
