A Parker County mother was on Facebook while her 6-month-old daughter drowned in the bathtub last week, officials said. Cheyenne Summer Stuckey, 21, said she put Zayla Hernandez in the tub June 13 and left her unsupervised with the water running. The mother told police she became "distracted" with another child and Facebook Messenger and had the television playing loudly, the Parker County Sheriff's Office said. When she remembered Zayla, the mother said she rushed to the bathroom but found the baby unresponsive and floating face-down. Stuckey said she attempted to resuscitate the infant, but "did not know how," officials said. When sheriff's deputies and Reno police were called to Stuckey's home in the 1500 block of Reno Road, she told them she had left the baby alone only "for a couple minutes," officials said.A sheriff's investigation showed the mother had been messaging two people on Facebook for at least 18 minutes while the baby was unattended in the bath.Zayla was transported to an Azle hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The other children in the home were placed in foster care. It is not clear the number or ages of other children who live in the home. Stuckey was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with injury to a child. She was booked into the Parker county jail. Bail has not been set yet. Continue reading...
