North Texas Soldier Trying to Bring Home Puppy He Saved in Afghanistan

A soldier is hoping he can bring a puppy he rescued in Afghanistan back to his home in North Texas. Zack McEntire has had a history of rescuing stray animals, and when he came across the small brown and white puppy in a burn pit, he climbed down to save her, WFAA-TV (Channel 8) reported. "We found Mimi outside our gate looking for food in a trash [or] burn pit which is about 50 feet deep and full of old needles and hazardous materials like old blood and used medical stuff," he told Paws of War, an organization that also trains rescue pets to become support animals for soldiers with PTSD.The two became inseparable. Now McEntire is trying to get the dog that he's named Mimi back to his home in Aledo where the dog will be cared for by his mother, Nancy McEntire, until he returns home.
