No Kingston, Cops and Firefighters Shouldn’t ‘stay the F Out’ of Dallas Politics

Philip Kingston became a social media caricature so long ago it’s hardly worth remarking on now.The district 14 council member plays a tough guy on Twitter in a way that discredits his office and shames the people he’s supposed to represent.If that sounds familiar, welcome to America, 2019.One of Kingston’s more recent tweets is only worth mentioning because it’s hard to tell whether it’s a threat or an unacceptable promise aimed at a leader of Dallas public safety workers.The context is this: Dallas police and firefighter associations have a very negative history with former Mayor Laura Miller and have been saying as much online, in person and anywhere else they can catch you for conversation. Miller has decided to run for council as part of her effort to stymie redevelopment in Preston Hollow, facing down incumbent Jennifer Staubach Gates.Kingston is campaigning for a council majority. He pictures Miller as part of that circle.So when the Dallas Firefighters Association began firing up negative tweets about Miller, Kingston fired back telling them to “stay the F out” of the race because “Jenny’s a trainwreck who has been against you at every turn and against us, too.”  Continue reading...
