No Date Yet, But New Orders on Redistricting Case Indicate Trial This Summer Is Likely

AUSTIN -- A federal court in San Antonio denied the state's requests to quickly resolve some of the remaining issues in Texas' years-long battle over its congressional and statehouse maps, fueling speculation that the state is headed to a trial this summer over whether those maps are discriminatory. A three-judge panel on Monday morning issued three orders that seem to clear the way for a trial in the next few months. The panel denied the state's request asking the judges to issue a judgment throwing out the plaintiffs' complaints that the maps violated the Fourteenth Amendment.  Continue reading...
