Construction has kicked off on a new rental community in Rockwall.San Antonio-based SWBC Real Estate is building The Royalton at Rockwall Downes apartments, a 295-unit project south of Interstate 30.The 21-acre development is on John King Boulevard next to Rockwall's Technology Business Park.Apartments in the community will average more than 1,000 square feet."Being that the Rockwall community is a high-income, family oriented area, we have designed our property to cater to the expectations of the residents of Rockwall," Stuart Smith, Senior Vice President of SWBC Real Estate, said in a statement. "Additionally, due to the strenuous zoning requirements in the area, the supply of new multi-family properties within Rockwall is very low, so we want to make sure we build a nice living alternative for those who want to live in Rockwall, but not necessarily own a home and still have the choice to live in a nice, upscale rental community."Construction on the project is expected to last about 20 months.Plano-based Cross Architects designed the project and Jordan Foster Construction is the general contractor. The new Rockwall apartment project is one of several SWBC Real Estate is planning in North Texas. The developer plans to build a 300-unit project in Grand Prairie. And SWBC Real Estate is planning a second phase to its Royalton at Craig Ranch apartments in McKinney with 271 units. Both of these projects will start the third quarter of 2019.
