Naked Man Arrested in Austin After Allegedly Stabbing Stepmother to Death With Steak Knife

A naked man was arrested Sunday in South Austin after he allegedly stabbed his stepmother to death with a steak knife, stripped off his clothing and then ran out of his house.Pontrey Jones, 20, was booked into the Travis County jail on Monday, where he remains in lieu of $500,000 bond, according to the Austin American-Statesman.According to his arrest warrant affidavit, Jones, who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder but stopped taking medication two years ago, was planning to join the military, but the pressure was too high. He told investigators his siblings were "disappointed" in him.Jones reportedly told investigators he had first decided to break his sister's neck, but later changed his mind and planned to injure his stepmother, 35-year-old Magdalena Ruiz, instead, according to the American-Statesman.Jones, who had recently moved in with his father and Ruiz at their apartment in the 2700 block of South Congress Avenue, placed a steak knife beneath a couch to use against Ruiz at a later time.Around 10:30 p.m., he allegedly came up behind his stepmother while she was watching TV with Jones' father, removed the steak knife from it's hiding place and repeatedly stabbed his stepmother while his father tried to stop him.Jones' father reportedly grabbed him by the throat to stop him but desisted when he realized Ruiz was seriously injured.According to his arrest warrant affidavit, Jones then ran out of the house and into the street, stripping off his clothing as he went. He was later found lying naked near the intersection of South Congress Avenue and Oltorf Street.Jones later told investigators Ruiz had been disrespecting his father and had been gloating about the Dallas Cowboys beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday before the attack.When police later informed him Ruiz had in fact died, Jones allegedly "appeared relieved and advised he stabbed [Ruiz] multiple times under the belief that a single stab would would fail to render death," according to the arrest warrant affidavit.  Continue reading...
