Most Texans in Congress Still Not Holding Town Halls

WASHINGTON -- As members of Congress continue to face pressure from constituents in the early months of 2017, the vast majority of Texas representatives will not have held a town hall this year by the end of the April congressional recess.Several Texans are using the time off in April to host town halls with constituents.Republican Rep. Joe Barton, who already held two town halls in rural areas of his district March, will hold three more during the congressional recess closer to major population centers in Corsicana, Mansfield and Waxahachie.Rep. Mike Conaway, R-Midland, is barnstorming his sprawling West Texas district with seven stops over the next two weeks in Mason, Eden, Eastland, Dublin, Brownwood, and Llano.Taking a break from his nascent 2018 Senate campaign, Democratic Rep. Beto O’Rourke will hold another town hall in his hometown of El Paso on Thursday.Several more members from Texas held town halls during the last recess. But 26 of the 36 members of the Texas congressional delegation are set to end the April recess without having held any town halls yet in 2017 -- 19 Republicans and 7 Democrats.  Continue reading...
